This past weekend I did a photo shoot for singer-songwriter Laura Bradley. We shot in the Angeles National Forest near where the Station fire raged out of control a few months ago. A friend who lived in one of the cabins there lost everything in the fire. Amidst the devastation, there’s beautiful imagery. Below are a couple of shots I took.

I came across a wonderful site at marcshiller.posterous.com. A fab compendium of imagery.

I’ll be back with more information on the new short soon and quite possibly a new screening series in LA.

Moving Forward

There’s nothing like celebrating another birthday to get you motivated. Not that I lack motivation but a little chili pepper has been added to the mix.

I met with the DP of the new short I’ll be doing in December. Kelly Carlin has agreed to do the role and her husband Bob is shooting. A family affair. This film is shorter than the last two. Much shorter. Which I find refreshing. I’m contemplating one long shot with a single cutaway. But I’m sure I’ll shoot far more than I need just in case what I see and feel is not what develops. Interesting how that works.

I’m prepping a photo shoot for singer/songwriter Laura Bradley. She has  a new CD coming out of killer kick-ass rock and roll. Her previous works are on iTunes. And I think she has a new website unveiling soon.

I’ve been reading Ted Hope’s blog. if you haven’t checked it out, do so now. He’s at TrulyFreeFilm.blogspot.

Also, Jon Reiss’s book is out. He’s been tearing up the circuit with details on indie film marketing and distribution. His book is titled Think Outside the Box Office. Check his website for how to buy copies.

A bit of movement on The Tempest. Can’t reveal details yet but the new year may bring great opportunities.

My question for today is “How to find investors for the next film?”

Stuff and Junk

Various things in the works. I just finished a new short film script and spoke to Kelly Carlin (yes George Carlin’s daughter) about doing the role. It’s a very simple piece but full of …. stuff. So, very excited about that. I’ll post as we get closer the process of getting this shot and edited.

I’m also finishing up another short film script that is the second in the “psycho” series. If you haven’t see the first one, “When Night Falls,” it’s here on the blog or on vimeo. It might be on my website at www.chaosfilmsinc.com. (If it’s not, take a look around anyway.) Laura will once again portray the zany bombshell serial killer.

I’m ALSO doing research on the horror script I’ve been working on for, well, a while. It’s called The Shrine. I think I’ve found the hook. I hope.  Horror is not really my thing so writing this really works my brain.

A couple of dandy websites I’ve run across:

Joseph Gordon-Leavitt has a site called hitRECord.org.  Check it out. He’s doing some experiments in creative collaboration.

MovieHatch.com just popped up in a forum on LinkedIn. This is a site that presents script ideas where the public and list of industry insiders vote on the best one.

Heading to AFM next week for a meeting, then Flint’s performance on 11/13-14 at Highways in Santa Monica. I’m creating the video for her piece. Here’s the flyer. Come join us for a delicious night of performance.

What’s Up?

I love twitter.

Anyway, I’m waiting to hear if the money will be forthcoming on a feature that I am supposed to direct.  And supposed to rewrite.  No anxiety here. What a crazy, batshit business this is. Living in limbo so much of the time.

When the money hits and it’s a go, I’ll start blogging daily (hopefully) on the process. Until then, I must find wrestle with patience and start something else.

Oi, Happy New Year and all that

it’s been somewhat of a productive time. i’m working on building a monthly film “club” here in lalaland and having some difficulty in finding a location. perseverance is key here. and i’m working on a showtime gig that’s paying the bills for now. so can’t complain. i’m curious to how you manage paying gigs with your art. unless of course you’re one of those whose art pays them. i’d venture to say most artists must work other jobs in addition to creating whatever it is they create.

i’ve also found a few new blogs/site that are interesting. check out the links.

Two Dames With a Clue

Two Dames With a Clue was a fabulous idea. Put women in a room together, turn on the camera and let them talk! Various topics were chosen such as Reinvention and Sex and Sexuality. We’re working on a series bible and hope to be shooting a pilot soon.

Here’s a couple of snippets.  I produced the videos, directed and edited.

Urban Possibilities

I just finished this video for a great nonprofit Urban Possibilities. Their website is urbanpossibilities.com. The founder and Executive Director is Eyvette Jones and she is a powerhouse! I urge you to donate time and/or money if you can as the program works.

Also we’re thinking of doing a documentary on the program. Let me know what you think as we’ll be approaching money folks soon.

Honeysuckle Rose

Today I created a page on IndieGogo.net to raise funds for Honeysuckle Rose. This beautiful little script , is a glimpse into the life of Rose as she prepares her prize honeysuckle bush to be judged in hopes of winning a neighborhood gardening competition.  The story is a poignant and heartfelt look at the unwavering love Rose has for her husband as she’s swallowed up by the murky waters of Alzheimer’s.

We’re trying to get Betty White and Ed Asner so if any of you have contacts out there and are willing to share, we’d appreciate it. I’ll even send you an autographed photo of Otis, the wonder cat.

In the meantime, I’d love to hear about your experiences with Alzheimer’s Disease. Family, friends, whomever.

I’m going to be creating a new website but until I get everything worked out I wanted to show a few things I’m working on and keep folks updated a bit. Feel free to comment or pass along.
